The Disabled Photographers Society

26 November 2023 - January 2024 | RPS Gallery Bristol

The Disabled Photographers’ Society was founded in 1968, when some disabled residents of a care home, who were keen on photography, were taken to a local camera club. From then, the charity has evolved to supply support, advice and adaptations so that its current members can take up or continue with photography.

Members also benefit from events such as photographic days out, competitions, holidays and webinars and the DPS Distinctions programme. The Annual Exhibition has been held since 1989 and this year there were over 450 entries and 11 trophies were awarded.

The Disabled Photographers’ Society operates nationwide and is run entirely by unpaid volunteers, most of them disabled photographers themselves.

The Disabled Photographers’ Society Annual Exhibition 2023

The Disabled Photographers’ Society Annual Exhibition 2023 will be showcasing winning entries from this year’s member competition. The Society strives to make photography accessible to those with disabilities. This might be as simple helping with a simple modification to open up a whole new world of possibilities to those who would otherwise struggle to operate a camera.

The exhibition captures a breadth of subjects, with the members impressive conceptual, technical and composition skills on display. Visit this exhibition and you’ll see how photography provides an immediate way to engage with the environment, experience self-growth and enjoy daily visual inspiration.
